Jon is one of the Founders of FVLD. He provides broad representation for clients in industries that include media, health care, food and beverage, manufacturing and service companies. Jon works closely with companies, executives, and professionals with particular emphasis in labor and employment, estate planning, trademark, First Amendment, and general corporate work. Jon’s labor and employment practice includes collective bargaining negotiations, preparing employment policies, crafting employment and separation agreements, mediations, arbitrations, and agency proceedings. Jon firmly believes in the importance of helping people solve their problems and earning their trust. He is widely known as the consummate, caring, and responsive lawyer that clients value.
The Commission on Women in the Legal Profession has hailed the anti-harassment policy that Jon developed as a “model” for the American Bar Association. Jon frequently counsels employers on hiring, discipline, and termination issues and is a great believer in taking a proactive and preventive approach. The EEOC has approved Jon as an anti-harassment trainer, and he has conducted trainings for employers that have been the subject of EEOC investigations. Jon conducts workshops for clients, professional and business groups, and at law schools on variety of topics including the prevention and investigation of sexual and other harassment, the importance of documentation, and effective interviewing. He has written book chapters and articles about, and has been interviewed by publications and television stations for, his proficiency in employment matters. Jon is a long time Member of The Executives Committee (“TEC”), now known as VISTAGE, and is a VISTAGE Speaker.
Jon believes in giving back. He has served on the Board of Directors of various corporations and charitable organizations as well as the trustee of charitable foundations. He is the Chairman of the Board of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the governing body of college tennis in the United States. Jon is a Past President of the United States Tennis Association (USTA), which hosts the US Open each year. The USTA is a not-for-profit organization and the national governing body for the sport of tennis in the United States. Due to his significant involvement for many years with JCYS, a Chicago social service agency, Jon was honored as “Man of the Year” at the JCYS Annual Gala in 2013. Jon has been inducted into the following Halls of Fame: Northwestern University Sports, ITA, USTA/Midwest Section, and Chicago Tennis. In March of 2014, Jon received the prestigious Samuel Hardy Award from the International Tennis Hall of Fame for long and outstanding service to the sport of tennis and devotion to the game that has inspired others.
While at Northwestern, Jon was Captain of the Varsity Tennis Team his Junior and Senior years. Following law school, he served as law clerk to Judge Edwin A. Robson of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. During his clerkship, he worked extensively with Judges Robson and Will on the multidistrict Folding Carton Antitrust Litigation, one of the largest class action antitrust cases in U.S. history.
Jon has a Peer Review Rating of “AV” (highest certification) by Martindale Hubbell. He is rated as a “Leading Lawyer” in Employment Law by Leading Lawyers Network. He was rated as a 2016 Super Lawyer in Illinois in employment law. Jon has earned a “Superb” (10 out of 10 rating) from AVVO.
Jon and his delightful wife have two sons, a lovely daughter-in-law, and are proud grandparents.
