Jeffrey Kopiwoda
Jeff is of counsel to FVLD, and Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel to DV Group, LLC, a proprietary trading and investment firm with a long-established relationship with FVLD. Having spent many years engaged in a multidisciplinary private practice of law, and having also held several different in-house general counsel roles, both in the United States and abroad, Jeff has a breadth of experience in advising his clients on a wide array of legal and business matters.
In private practice, Jeff’s role has often been that of an outside corporate counsel, focused on adding value by prioritizing his clients’ ultimate business goals over legal convention. With his background in enterprise organization and governance, mergers and acquisitions, securities and financial services, data privacy and security, intellectual property, employment, and litigation, Jeff is uniquely positioned to service his client’s needs from formation through exit. Jeff has represented banks, brokerage firms, hedge funds, private equity firms, proprietary trading firms, data providers, financial technology (FinTech), and other technology firms on the forefront of innovative new businesses, including companies in the cryptocurrency and blockchain spaces.
As an in-house general counsel living in Monte Carlo, Monaco, Jeff worked on cross-border transactions, international fund formations, and financial services regulatory and licensing issues in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Currently, Jeff not only serves as General Counsel to a financial services and investment firm, but also as its Chief Operating Officer responsible for executing the firm’s business development and expansion plans
Jeff earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University’s College of Business, and a law degree from the Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was a member of both its Law Review and Moot Court honor societies. While in law school, Jeff also studied international law in Rome, Italy, through Loyola University. Several years after graduating, Jeff returned to the Chicago-Kent College of Law to teach Legal Drafting as an adjunct professor of law.
Jeff’s interests include running, cycling, swimming and alpine skiing. He is married and has two sons.
